CARLSON—Thomas Lee Carlson, 71 went to be with our Lord and Savior on July 24, 2010. Tom was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Born Oct. 10, 1938 in Warren, PA and raised in Jamestown, NY, he marched in Drum & Bugle Corps. He later served in the U.S. Army in Germany. He was a former store manager of W.T. Grants in NY and PA and in 1984 opened the first Sam’s Club in Jacksonville and later Wal-Mart. Tom was a loving, generous, humorous family oriented man. He led by example, had a compassion for faith, family and friends and never met a stranger. He was an active member of Advent Lutheran Church of Orange Park where he served as treasurer, participated in the choir and was a member of the OWLS. Tom is survived by his wife, Helga; children, Anita (Tom), Dwayne (Sarah) and Tom K.; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; siblings, Jerry, Frank, Roger, Shirley Anderson and Judy Rossing. Tom is preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers. Funeral services in celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2010, 11:00 AM at Advent Lutheran Church, 2156 Loch Rane Blvd., Orange Park, FL. Family and friends will visit on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 from 5 until 8 PM at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, FL. In lieu of flowers, kindly make donations in Tom’s memory to the Advent Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
